Cape Verde: new 500 and 5,000 Escudos

The Bank of Cape Verde on September 10, 2015 put in circulation new notes of 500 and 5,000 Escudos, honoring, respectively, the poet Jorge Barbosa and the first president of the Republic of Cape Verde, Aristides Pereira. New banknote family which also includes the 200, 1,000 and 2,000 Escudos launched in December 2014. Series 2014/2015 launched to honor great figures of Cape Verde's history linked to music, poetry, literature and politics, highlighting the cultural elements and the country's development in recent years.

This issue is part of the celebrations of 40 years of this financial institution, which will be celebrated under the theme "BCV: 40 years Committed to Development".

Among the other depicting activities at 40 years of the BCV is the launch of the book "History of Currency in Cape Verde from the early settlement to the present" the John Stephen's authorship, Cape Verde Professor at ISEG School of Economics and Management.
